Altering interfacial properties through the integration of C60 into ZnO ceramic via cold sintering process

A lot of nanocomposites containing C60 have been developed to enable various application opportunities. However, it seems impossible incorporate into ceramics without destroying the molecules, because are typically sintered at high temperatures that could result in chemical reaction C60. Herein, we report successful integration with ZnO using cold sintering process. (1-x)ZnO-xC60 composites x ranging from 0 5 wt% densified monolithic structures relative densities over 95%. Clear molecules observed composites, and thin layers less than 10 nm located grain boundaries. With altering interfacial ceramics, electrical properties improved significantly, especially, breakdown electric field 1 mA cm?2 is enhanced ?80 V mm?1 ?2100 mm?1. The FEM analysis indicates current density interfaces higher other regions. This work thus process provides a promising pathway design new types functional materials through ceramics.
